THE REVIEW by Robin Moroney for Gamers Today
The PS1 version of World Destruction League is like a hit in the face. The game's awesome title (the world, thunder, a league, some destruction, and tanks!) promises too much. While the PS2 version gets some improvements, it was "simply not enough" for Daily Radar and "not terribly groundbreaking" as far as Gamespot was concerned. Players travel the world driving a tank and destroying other tanks of all shapes and sizes. In a PS2-specific innovation, the tanks travel to such exotic locales as Redwood City, California and Atlantis. "The deviations it makes are interesting," said Gamespot. Some tanks can move from side to side. Just about everything in sight can be blown to pieces (which Daily Radar noted "didn't do much" to the shape of the game). In the end the game falls somewhere between Daily Radar's polite "serviceable" and Gamespot's mutedly enthusiastic "plenty of replay value."
