THE REVIEW by Robin Moroney for Gamers Today
While reviewing Sea Dogs, all critics mentioned Sid Meier's Pirates with heavy nostalgia. Like Pirates, Sea Dogs tries to bundle strategy, action and role-playing into an journey on the high seas, looting, pillaging and balancing your expenses. Most critics approved, but nearly all had some kind of objection. Daily Radar found design problems like the "large amount of tedious travel" and the initial problems finding the money to pay for a new ship. Sea Dogs' extensive detail was too much for IGN, "all the statistics and hot keys in the world won't convince a gamer that bigger necessarily equals better." Despite these quibbles Sea Dogs still survived. According to IGN, "be thankful for what you've got: an epic swashbuckling adventure that's sailing on mostly smooth, but sometimes turbulent waters."
