Daily Radar sensed that Quake's expansion pack attempts to close a gap between itself and Unreal Tournament. The game adds team games to the Quake formula and very little else. "Extremely focused," wrote Gamespot. Both Gamespot and Daily Radar appreciated the new team tactics that the two new modes require, but found nothing else exciting. Daily Radar thought the gaudy colors made the game seem like "a hideous Las Vegas strip gone awry." Gamespot disapproved of the new voice taunt feature because "all these voice taunts sound horrible." Daily Radar simply concluded that Team Arena supplies "nothing that can't be found for free."
