THE REVIEW by Robin Moroney for Gamers Today

Critics made out that Gunman Chronicles was only good if you got it for free. Presumably they did play the game for free, and it was annoying of them to rub our faces in it. Gunman Chronicles is a conversion of Half-Life, where the main difference consists of the spacemen being replaced by southern-drawl confederate soldiers firing rocket launchers and plasma guns. "Brilliant as a free downloadable total conversion, it doesn't hold-up against other first-person shooters in the retail market," said IGN. But Daily Radar, recognizing that "FPS fans that have never played Half-Life (all three of them) will welcome Gunman's style of blending action with scripted events" thought some might find something worthwhile in this excellent re-tread (but still a retread) of a much-loved game.
