THE REVIEW by Robin Moroney for Gamers Today For PC strategy fans, Starcraft has been a god-like presence on their desktops for three years. "It's almost sacred," said IGN. The choice between three highly different alien races, the graphics and the elegant interface made the game a classic, and the transition to the Nintendo 64 had critics asking: "Can the graphics be as good?" "How can you replace a keyboard with a control pad?" and, in Daily Radar's case, "Do you focus on creating a few very powerful units, like the Protoss Archon or simply make a massive horde of Zerg Hydralisks and send them into the fray?"
According to Gamefan, Starcraft is "a nice addition to Nintendo's barren older audience library." The graphics have become blockier during the move to the N64 and the controls, while an overall excellent substitution, still sometimes require you "to be especially nimble in your unit selections, and you find yourself clicking the spot just a little too far from the intended unit, repeatedly, as your army is reduced to bloody splats on the ground." However, as Gamefan said, "if you forgive and forget its looks, you will find yourself drawn in and addicted in no time." *For a complete explanation of ESRB ratings, check out the official ESRB Web site. |
