THE REVIEW by Robin Moroney for Gamers Today "Indy 64 sacrifices nothing from the PC version, except for many of its frustrations," wrote IGN. Still, the game has been unable to shake the specter that haunted it on the PC, that of Lara Croft. According to Daily Radar, Dr. Jones mimics Lara "right down to the swimming motions and block-pulling" and, according to Gamespot, he also apes Lara's erratic inability to perform. "Try to get him to climb the step in front of him and you'll likely see him jump straight up a few times before he realizes he can simply shimmy himself forward."
IGN liked the game on the basis that even if Indiana Jones was a Tomb Raider, he was a very good Tomb Raider, "if you enjoyed any of the Tomb Raider offerings, consider yourself a fan of the Indiana Jones franchise." The combat system resembles Ocarina of Time's, where, once you've locked onto an enemy, you can easily run around the "mystical beasts and Soviet troops [and] spiders and snakes" while whipping and shooting them. Indy encounters these beasts and commies, by the way, while on "a trip to Babylon to stop the evil communists from unveiling a weapon that makes the atom bomb look like a firecracker."
"There's just not enough different from Tomb Raider to make it stand out as top-notch," wrote Daily Radar. Nevertheless, the Infernal Machine provides much to enjoy, even if Lara Croft delivered it all before. *For a complete explanation of ESRB ratings, check out the official ESRB Web site. |
